Shopping Cart
The software that catalogs the items a customer wishes to buy on a site as they shop, tallies the price for checkout, and communicates with the payment gateway to facilitate the purchase of goods online. Some carts also calculate shipping, tax, discounts, and a variety of other functions.
Storefront
Internet business software which provides an interface between customers and the business. Typical storefronts will help to develop the website, host the site, operate a shopping cart, and have a payment gateway. There is a wide variety of services and functions that different storefronts offer, and care should be used to select the Storefront that works for a particular business.
Hosted (Hosting)
The vendor of the Cart Software provides the space and the traffic management for your site (remote or local)

Cart can request a quote for the shipping costs from UPS, USPS, and FedEx to provide realtime costs for an item, or combination of items.
Online delivery
Refers to delivery system for products that can be transferred online, such as software, readable text (books, articles), digital files (digital photos), etc.
Ecommerce solutions
Refers to a wide range of products that facilitate the transacting of goods and services online.
Suggest sell/cross selling
Refers to a function which will recognize a customers selection of items, and recommend other items that might be of interest to that customer.
Quantity discounts/coupons
refers to the function which offers a discount after a certain quantity of an item are purchased, or when a coupon code is used for purchase.
Autorespond
once a customer completes a sale, some carts that have an email system attached can automatically send the customer new sale offers, newsletters, or other relevant material.
Affiliate
sites that you have partnered with to send traffic to your site, usually for a predetermined cost per visitor.
Affiliate modules
system that keeps track of which of your affiliates (partner sites) are sending you traffic, and how much you need to pay for that traffic.
Payment gateway
the system designed to accept payments from customers, and deliver them to your bank account. Sometimes the gateway is built into the cart, sometimes not. It is also important to check compatibility with your banking institution.
